The draft law on constitutional amendments meets the requirements of the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission
From 28 to 29 September 2020, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, Fadei Nagacevschi, held a series of meetings with members of the High-Level Working Group of the Council of Europe, created by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to support the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to reform the judicial system.
The discussions addressed issues related to the status of envisaged reforms in the justice sector and the importance of their compliance with European standards.
Thus, the Council of Europe confirmed that the draft law on constitutional amendments (concerning the judiciary and the Superior Council of Magistrates) currently promoted by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, is in line with latest opinions of the Venice Commission and the Directorate General for Human Rights and the rule of law.
The Council of Europe also confirmed that it will continue to work closely with the Republic of Moldova to promote the full and effective implementation of reforms in the justice sector.
